Hokusai

Feb 2, 2012 | 11:12AM

I love Hokusai’s Great Wave, from his series Thirty-Six Views of Mount Fuji. I wanted to play around with DMesh, so I figured I would throw it in there and see what happened. Delaunay triangles are everywhere in design and illustration these days, and DMesh is a pretty easy way to mess around with it. Check it out, the regular, non pro version is free on the Mac App Store. Oh and I added some quick textures in Photoshop.

I’m pretty stoked. The Chase got blogged by two sites that I visit every day. notcot.org posts all kinds of cool design, tech, and art things, and abduzeedo.com posts a lot of design and photography inspiration. Thanks NOTCOT and Abduzeedo for the love!

Fstoppers

A year or so ago, my dad sent me a link to Fstoppers, a website that specializes in behind the scenes videos of photo and video shoots. I started going there regularly, picking up ideas and techniques. We submitted the BTSV of The Chase to the contest, and they featured it on their site! We’re still waiting to find out which videos go to the judges to pick the winner, but I’m very excited to be featured on a blog that I frequent.

Check out their post here!

The Chase

I had the amazing opportunity to work with a really awesome team of people to realize a creative vision. You can see the finished panorama, read the whole story, watch a how we did it behind the scenes video, and check out other work by the team at the microsite.

Here’s the team, shortly after we did the location shoot, and slightly before we consumed a large amount of delicious Mexican food. From left to right: Justin Jang, me, Eric Herrmann, William Csete, Austin Kearsley, Julie Ann Thomazin, Kian Ameli. Special thanks to Jake Odening for helping us out with some filming, and to Zack Hemsey for letting us use his music for the BTS video.

Merry Christmas!

Time

Nov 11, 2011 | 8:03AM

Many years ago I used to excitedly wait for the clock on my parents double oven to turn 12:34. I would then run around the house celebrating. This was usually followed by lunch. Every so often, I would attempt to share my excitement with my brother, but I’m pretty sure he just thought I was crazy. Other times to look forward to were 1:23, 5:55, and of course 11:11.

So if you had asked me back then what I would me most excited about today, I would have answered 11:11:11 on 11/11/11.

But my first thought upon waking up this morning was “my best friend graduates in exactly six months.”

How things change. Happy 11s day everyone!

I took a couple pictures. Jake retouched them. Style Me Pretty blogged them. I’m stoked.

R.I.P.

A father and a husband died today. I read this article about him that my friend posted on facebook. I never met, or even saw Steve Jobs, in all the times I’ve been on Apple campus. I’m deeply saddened by his death. I’ve always wondered about him, about his life apart from Apple. That article affirms the hopes that I had for him. That he had a family that he loved, that his life wasn’t just about creating a product.

Things will never be the same. I don’t mean to be dramatic, but the man saw things differently, he pushed the boundaries of what we view as normal, and he had an unyielding commitment to excellence. I’m glad he’s not suffering anymore. I pray that God blesses his family.

Holy new site design Batman!

In case you didn’t notice, my site design changed. I’ve been working really hard to finish it up, it only took me about three years. Thanks to Kris and Erica among others for their design input, and to Kyle, Justin, Ian, Kellan, Eric, Billy, and I’m sure others for their help and advice with the development process. I’m definitely not cut out to be a full time web developer, but I did have fun making the site. Stay tuned for more!!
